வீடு வீடாக பொருட்களை விநியோகிக்கும் அந்த சிறுவனுக்கு ரொம்ப பசித்தது. எதையாவது வாங்கி சாப்பிடலாம் என்றால் கையில் பணமே இல்லை. அருகில் இருந்த வீட்டில் ஏதாவது சாப்பிட கேட்கலாம் என்று நினைத்தான்.

அந்த வீட்டின் கதவைத் தட்டினான். ஒரு பெண் கதவைத் திறந்தாள். ஏதாவது கேட்கலாம் என்று நினைத்தான். ஆனால் கூச்சம். கேட்க மனம்வரவில்லை.

"கொ… கொஞ்சம் தண்ணி கிடைக்குமா குடிக்க?" தயக்கத்துடன் கேட்கிறான்.

அவள் சிறுவனின் கண்களில் இருந்த பசியை கவனிக்கிறாள். உள்ளே சென்றவள், ஒரு கப் பாலை கொண்டு வந்து கொடுத்தாள்.

பாலைக் குடித்து பசியாறிய சிறுவன் கேட்டான்… "நான் எவ்வளவு கடன்பட்டிருக்கிறேன்?"

"கடனா… அப்படி ஒன்றும் இல்லை. அன்பான செயலுக்கு விலை எதுவும் இல்லை என்று என் அம்மா சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்." அவள் சிரித்துக்கொண்டே சொன்னாள்.

"ரொம்ப நன்றி…" சிறுவன் புன்னகையுடன் கடந்து சென்றான்.

ஆண்டுகள் கழிந்தன. கஷ்டப்பட்டு முட்டி மோதி படிப்பை முடித்த அந்த சிறுவன் மருத்துவம் படித்து அந்த நகரிலேயே மிகப் பெரிய டாக்டர் ஆனான்.அந்த சமயத்தில் அந்த பெண்ணுக்கோ ஒரு கொடிய நோய் வந்தது.

அவர் பணியாற்றிய மருத்துவமனையிலேயே அவளும் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தாள். அந்த டாக்டரிடமே அவளுடைய பரிசோதனையும் வந்தது. மெடிக்கல் ரிப்போர்ட்டில் அந்த பெண்ணின் ஊர் பெயரை பார்த்ததும் அவருக்குள் ஒரு சின்ன மின்னல். விரைவாக வார்டுக்கு போய் அந்த பெண்ணை பார்த்தார். அவள் தான். தனது பசியாற்றிய அந்த தாயுள்ளம் தான்.

அன்று முதல் தனது அத்துனை உழைப்பையும் கவனத்தையும் செலுத்தி அந்த பெண்ணுக்கு சிகிச்சை அளித்தார். நீண்ட சிகிச்சைக்கு பின்னர் அவள் குணமானாள். பல லட்சங்கள் செலவானது. மருத்துவமனை அந்த பெண்ணுக்கு ஒரு நீண்ட பில்லை அனுப்பியது. இதை எப்படி கட்டப்போகிறோமோ என்று பதட்டத்துடன் அதை பிரித்தவள் திகைத்துப் போனாள்.

அந்த பில்லின் கடைசியில் கையால் எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தது.

"இந்த பில்லை நீங்கள் செலுத்தவேண்டியதில்லை. ஒரு கப் பாலில் உங்கள் கடன் முழுதும் தீர்க்கப்பட்டுவிட்டது. இது நன்றி சொல்லும் நேரம்!"

அவளுக்கு கண்கள் பனித்தன.

அந்த சிறுவன் வேறு யாருமல்ல… அமெரிக்காவின் மிகப் பிரபல மருத்துவராக விளங்கிய DR. HOWARD KELLY (1858-1943) தான்.

நான் என்னன்னெவோ சொல்ல நினைச்சேன் முடிவுல. ஆனா கீழே பாருங்க அத்தனையையும் நம்ம வள்ளுவர் ரெண்டே வரியில சொல்லிட்டார்.

பொருள் : வறியவர்களின் பசியைப் போக்குங்கள். அது தான் செல்வம் பெற்ற ஒருவன் அது பிற்காலத்துக்கு தனக்கு உதவுமாறு சேர்த்து வைக்கும் இடமாகும்.

பணத்துக்கு மதிப்பெண்! அடையாளத்திற்கு மதிப்பெண்! அறிவுக்கு ஒன்றுமில்லை!

மிகுந்த மனவருத்தத்துடன் இதை பதிவு செய்கிறேன்.

இன்று ஒரு மெகா நேர்முகத்தேர்வு நடந்தது. இருநூறுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட பொறியியல் பட்டதாரிகள் வந்திருந்தார்கள். எல்லாரும் கடந்த ஆண்டு பொறியியல் இளங்கலை பட்டப்படிப்பு முடித்தவர்கள். பிஈ மின்னணுத்துறை, ,கணிப்பொறி, பிடெக் ஐடி என்று படித்தவர்கள். இருநூறு பேரில் பத்துபேர் கூட தேறவில்லை. பொது அறிவு சுத்தமாக இல்லை. துறைசார்ந்த அறிவும் இல்லை. கம்யூனிகேஷன் எனப்படும் தகவல் பரிமாற்றத்திலும் தேறவில்லை. ஆனால் இவர்கள் எல்லாரும் பத்து, பன்னிரெண்டாம் வகுப்புகளில் எண்பது சதவீதத்துக்கு அதிகமான மதிப்பெண்கள் எடுத்துள்ளார்கள். இளங்கலை படிப்பில் எழுபது அல்லது எண்பது சதவீதம் மதிப்பெண்கள் எடுத்துள்ளார்கள். எப்படி இவர்கள் இவ்வளவு மதிப்பெண்கள் எடுத்தார்கள் என்று ஆச்சர்யமாக உள்ளது. நாங்கள் படிக்கும் போதெல்லாம் நூற்றுக்கு பத்து சதவீத மாணவர்களே இதுபோன்ற உயர் மதிப்பெண்கள் எடுப்பார்கள். ஆனால் மதிப்பெண்கள் குறைந்தாலும் துறை சார்ந்த அறிவை அதிகம் வளர்த்துக்கொள்வார்கள். இன்று வந்திருந்தவர்களில் ஒருவர் கூட கேட்ட கேள்விக்கு பதில் சொல்லவில்லை.

ரெஸியூமில் பொழுதுபோக்கு என்று சினிமா பார்ப்பது, பாட்டுக்கேட்பது , சமையல் செய்வது என்று குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்கள். ஒரேயொரு பெண் மட்டும் புத்தகங்கள் படிப்பேன் என்று குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார். என்னமாதிரி புத்தகங்கள் படிப்பீங்க என்று கேட்டேன். ஆன்மிக புத்தகங்கள் என்று சொன்னார். சரி அது அவரது தனிப்பட்ட விருப்பம் என்று விட்டுவிட்டேன். துறைசார்ந்த கேள்வி என்பதால் கல்லூரி இறுதியாண்டிலேயே அவர் செய்த பிராஜக்ட் பற்றி கேள்வி கேட்டோம். தொடர்பே இல்லாமல் பதில் வந்தது. இன்னொருத்தர் கேள்வி கேட்ட என்னை பார்த்தே குட் கொஸ்டீன் என்று பதில் சொன்னார். அவர் என்னை கலாய்க்கிறாரா என்று கூட சந்தேகமாக இருந்தது. ஒரு பெண் எனக்கு பிஇ படிக்க விருப்பமில்லை. எங்க பெற்றோர் சொன்னதால் சேர்ந்தேன் என்று சொன்னார். அவர் மீது மிகுந்த கோபம் வந்தது. இன்னொரு பெண் எனக்கு வீணை வாசிக்க வரும் என்றார். சரி அவர்கள் கல்லூரியில் படித்த பாடங்களில் கேள்வி கேட்போம் என்று மிக மிக எளிமையாக ஸ்டாக்குக்கும், கியூவுக்கும் என்ன வித்தியாசம் என்று அடிப்படை கேட்டால் மாற்றி மாற்றி குழப்பமான பதிலை சொன்னார்கள்.

கல்லூரி முடித்து கிட்டத்தட்ட பத்து மாதங்கள் ஆகிவிட்டன. இந்த நாட்களில் என்ன செஞ்சீங்க? ஏதாவது கோர்ஸ் படிச்சீங்களா? துறைசார்ந்த அறிவை வளர்த்து கொண்டீர்களா? தனியார் பயிற்சி மையங்களில் சான்றிதழ்கள் வாங்குனீங்களா என்று கேட்டால் எல்லாரும் சொல்லி வைத்தது போல இந்த பத்து மாதங்களில் எதுவும் செய்யவில்லை என்று சொன்னார்கள். ஒரு பெண் அவரது அம்மாவுக்கு உடம்பு சரியில்லை. அதனால் மேற்கொண்டு எதுவும் படிக்கவில்லை என்று சொன்னார். இளைஞர்களிடம் கேட்டால் பத்து மாதங்களாக வேலை தேடுகிறேன். எதுவும் கிடைக்கவில்லை என்று சொல்கிறார்கள். இவர்களின் பொறுப்பற்றத்தனம் மிகுந்த எரிச்சலையும். ஆத்திரத்தையும் ஏற்படுத்தியது.

உண்மையில் வேலை இல்லா திண்டாட்டம் இப்போது இல்லை. திறமை இல்லாத் திண்டாட்டத்தில்தான் நாங்கள் இருக்கிறோம். முன்பு போல இந்தக்காலம் இல்லை. ஒருவருடம் நீங்கள் நின்றுவிட்டால் கூட உங்கள் பின்னால் பெருங்கூட்டம் வந்துவிடும். அவர்களோடு போட்டி போட்டுக் கொண்டு ஓடவேண்டும். ஒவ்வொருவரும் லட்சணக்கணக்கில் பணம் கட்டி பொறியியல் படிப்பை படித்தவர்கள். பணம் இல்லாத காரணத்தால் என்னால் பொறியியல் கல்லூரியில், மருத்துவத்துறையில் சேர முடியவில்லை. சென்னை வந்து வேலை பார்த்துக்கொண்டே படித்தேன். எனது நண்பர்கள் பலர் அப்படித்தான். வெறும் ஐநூறு ரூபாய்க்காக ஒரு தனியார் பயிற்சி மையத்துக்கு சென்று வகுப்பெடுத்துள்ளோம். எடுத்தவுடன் பெரிய பதவிகள் வராது. பெரிய சம்பளமும் கிடைக்காது. எந்தத்துறை எடுத்துக்கொண்டாலும் சில ஆண்டுகள் அந்தத்துறையை பற்றி நாம் கற்பதில் அறிவதில் காலத்தை செலவழிக்க வேண்டும். முதலில் நாம் வாங்கும் சம்பளம் குறைவாகத்தான் இருக்கும். பிறகு சில ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து நமது அறிவும், சம்பளமும்,உழைப்பும் சமமாக இருக்கும். இறுதியில் நமது திறமைக்கு, அறிவுக்கு, உழைப்புக்கு அதிகமான சம்பளம் கிடைக்கும்.

லட்சக்கணக்கில் செலவழிப்பவர்கள் சில ஆயிரம் செலவழித்து ஏதாவது தனியார் நிறுவனங்களில் அட்வான்ஸ்ட் தொழில்நுட்பத்தை கற்றிருக்கலாம். அதைக்கூட நாங்கள் எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை. குறைந்தது நீங்கள் படித்த பாடத்திலேயே தெளிவு இருக்கிறதா என்று பார்க்கிறோம். அதுவும் இல்லை. எல்லாரும் சென்னையை சுற்றியுள்ள தனியார் பொறியியல் கல்லூரிகளில் படித்தவர்கள். நான்கு வார்த்தை சேர்ந்தாற்போல ஆங்கிலத்தில் கோர்வையாக பேசவரவில்லை. ஷேக்ஸ்பியர்போல கவிதை எழுத வேண்டும் என்று யாரும் எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை. ஆனால் சொல்ல வந்ததை தெளிவாக சொன்னால் போதும்.

கல்விக்கும், அறிவுக்கும் தொடர்பு இல்லை என்று இன்று மீண்டும் தெரிந்துக்கொண்டேன். அறிவு என்பது பாடத்திட்டத்துக்கு வெளியே இருக்கிறது. நேர்முகத்தேர்வில் ஒருவரது கல்வியை விட அவரது அவரது Attitude – ஐத்தான் நாங்கள் பார்ப்போம். அவர் எந்தளவு அக்கறை கொண்டவராக (அந்தக்கால ஆசாமிகள் வார்த்தையில் சொன்னால் தொழில்பக்தி) இருக்கிறார் என்று பார்ப்போம். இப்போது எல்லார் கையிலும் ஸ்மார்ட்போன் இருக்கிறது. பதினாறு ஆண்டுகள் கஷ்டப்பட்டு படித்துவிட்டு இறுதியில் எல்லைக்கோட்டை தொடும்நேரத்தில் ஏன் இப்படி அலட்சியம்? பொறுப்பற்றத்தனம்? சில இளைஞர்கள் தலைமுடியை ஸ்பைக் எல்லாம் வைத்துக்கொண்டு வந்திருந்தார்கள். ஒரு நேர்முகத்தேர்வுக்கு எப்படி வரவேண்டுமென்று கூடவா இங்கிதம் தெரியாது? காலமெல்லாம் சினிமா பார்த்துக்கொண்டும், பேஸ்புக்கில் கும்மியடித்துக் கொண்டும், பல்சரில் சுற்றுவதும், இருபது வயதுக்கு பிறகும் பெற்றோர் பணத்தில் உட்கார்ந்து சாப்பிடுவதும் எல்லாம் ஒரு பிழைப்பா?
